News broke earlier today that Nick Diaz would face Anderson Silva at the annual UFC event during Superbowl weekend. Dana White made the announcement on ESPN’s SportsCenter stating the following:

“The greatest off all-time Anderson Silva is back. His doctor gave him clearance to fight. The fight the fans have been waiting for, the fight the fans have been screaming for.. also back is Nick Diaz so we have made Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz Jan. 31 in Las Vegas. It will be the main event and it will be five rounds”

Not a bad way for both fighters to return to action at all.

Looks like that retirement didn’t stick.

News broke late yesterday that Nick Diaz has come out of his retirement and signed a three fight contract extension with the UFC. When asked by members of the media, Diaz stated that he’d like to fight for the title, or Anderson Silva. Realistically Diaz is aiming for a early 2015 return to the octagon.

With all the grief that the Diaz brothers have given Dana White and the UFC as of late, you can’t help but wonder what monetary details were in that contract.
